Ya-Sin Peaks was born in Detroit, MI where he attended the University of Michigan. After earning his Bachelor of Science degree in nuclear physics, he was commissioned as an officer in the US Marine Corps, where he served as a combat army officer and aviator for 11 years. He finished his service in the reserves as a combat search and rescue pilot. It was during this time that he was inspired to pursue a career in medicine and surgery.
Dr. Peaks is an avid learner and holds several advanced degrees including a Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering and an MBA from Boston University. He earned his Medical Degree from the University of Alabama in 2011 and subsequently completed a General Surgery intern year at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA, and a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of California in Irvine at the Beckman Laser institute, where he studied and published research investigating pediatric subglottic stenosis.
Returning to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Dr. Peaks earned his dental degree and subsequently completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Upon graduating from residency, Dr. Peaks was appointed as the Staff Oral Surgeon and Chief of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery at the Birmingham, AL and Hampton, VA Veteran’s Association Medical Centers, respectively. He continues to serve the veteran community as a consulting surgeon to the local veteran’s health centers in Northern California.
In his leisure time, Dr. Peaks is a recreational pilot, avid runner, and considers himself a connoisseur of fine cheesecake. He has a passion for teaching and is proud to serve the needs of the Chico community as a part of our private practice.
